Publishing

Publishing is the craft of helping a manuscript become a reading experience. I’m working on the structure, pages, covers, and production details that make a book feel considered.

At a glance

  • Who it helps: Authors and people developing a book or reading experience
  • The problem: A manuscript needs structure, design, and production decisions before it becomes a finished reading experience.
  • My role: Book design and production lead.
  • Structure and interior layout
  • Cover coordination and visual consistency
  • The details that help a book feel finished

The story

A book contains more design decisions than you notice while reading a good one. The order of the material, the shape of a page, the cover, and the little moments that help you find your place all contribute to the experience. Publishing is where I’m working through those decisions.

My work includes book structure, interior layout, cover coordination, and the production steps that help a manuscript become a thoughtfully presented book. It connects to my own teaching and program ideas, where the printed or digital material needs to help someone use what they are reading. I like giving an idea enough structure that another person can spend time with it.

There are different pieces in progress. I’m developing the craft of carrying work from a collection of words into an experience that feels considered. A layout decision can help someone understand where they are; a good sequence can help them stay with an idea. That patient attention to the page is part of what makes this work satisfying to me. I want the care in the production to serve the person who eventually opens the book.
